Our member (and President Elect), Dr Elizabeth Celi is a psychologist, working with sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.  Her presentation is titled 'Trauma, the brain, the psychology and keeping on top of our memories'

We recently welcomed Rob Thomasson as he had transferred from another Rotary club to Surfers Sunrise. He is the father of our Treasurer Charles Thomasson and has years (decades?) of experience as a Rotarian.  Get to know Rob better, as he outlines his background, his hobbies and his passions!

Big Bike Sale at the Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Shed - all proceeds go to the Wheelchairs project.

Huge range of around 80 bikes in all sizes and purposes, from kid's bikes to adult, off-road and racing bikes. These are from good condition to excellent condition racing bikes that were donated and found to be too good to dismantle for wheelchair components, but instead to be refurbished for sale. Prices start at $5.00. Cash or Card payment. 

Our former member Barry Lea was right in the thick of getting our Wheelchairs Project rolling. And it wasn't easy going! Hear Barry reminisce about the trials and tribulations of the mid-nineties to the "big bang" when the first 10 wheelchairs were delivered to Fiji!

As has now become a tradition, Federal MP and Shadow Minister for the Environment and Youth, Angie Bell, will present at our club.

At his last visit on 22nd April, we simply ran out of time - the questions just kept coming. So, Cr Darrent Taylor has agreed to come back to our club on 3rd June. This one will be in a slightly different format: All members are invited to submit their questions and follow-up questions (if applicable, i.e. "Do you support xxxx... and if so, then... yyyy..?"). Sen Constable Andrew Cheung-Fook is a local Police Officer, who also works at the Police Citizen's Youth Club (PCYC), an organisation that our club closely works with and supports. Andrew's topic will be one that is dear to our hearts: Police and specifically their Public Safety Response Team.

We'll have a Big Bike Sale on Saturday 20th June at the Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Shed, from 07:30 am to 11:00 am. All proceeds go to the Wheelchairs project.

Letitia Stringer is an investigation officer with the Department of Justice and Attorney-General QLD. Her presentation will cover the latest scams, particularly those targeting the elderly, how to avoid them, and what to do should you ever find yourself caught up in one.

Our annual Changeover Luncheon will again be held at the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel in Southport, top floor, where we held it last year. Graeme Isaacson has again organised a sumptuous luncheon - see post on website for details. Our incoming President Mario Fairlie will outline his plans and vision for our club's upcoming year.

Susan Howard, the District's Chair of  MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly), will prsent on this important program. MUNA is one of the secret jewels of Rotary. Every year, multiple districts, each with dozens of teams, stage this event where Year 11/12 students represent their High School, to be the UNO representatives of a country assigned to them. The winner then are invited to participate at a national event.

In this year's event (May 2026), our club sponsored three teams from Trinity Lutheran College. Four of the participants, accompanied by one of their teachers, will also participate. This is going to be a BIG meeting!

One of our primary annual even ts: The presentation of the 'Lutzy Award', in memory of our late member Keith Lutz, who also was a leader in the Surf Life Saving Club. A fully fledged surf ski, the details of the award signwritten on it, will be presented. The recipient will be "an emerging leader", not necessarily the top surfer (but of course can be), usually between 14 and 17 years old.(Image: last year's winner, Noah Siladyi)
