President's Message

Mitch Brown

This is my last President’s report as next week I will be in Tasmania, in part preparing for a very bracing swim in the River Derwent.

Tentative planning has an away team to assemble the x-ray and pathology building on Pentecost Island leaving in mid-July.
Hopefully there will be no more intervening acts of God!

This week’s meeting will be a bit of a casual affair downstairs as the upstairs room is unavailable due to new carpet being laid.

That said, I’m sure you will all be in attendance to find out what becomes of Warlimpirrnga!

The snake should be called Kabul – it’s Yugambeh for carpet snake. [Hmmm... the indigenous people of Afghanistan might object to this. Huh? No, not the Hazara and not the Tajiks, nor the Panjiris. The Pashtuns. What? OK then, I'll see myself out... ☺]

Enjoy your week and see you Wednesday morning.

Stories
No "formal" meeting upstairs this Wednesday
We have been advised (at a somewhat late date) that the upstairs venue will not be available this Wednesday, due to renovations. Therefore, we won't have a "formal" meeting with a guest speaker; we'll simply enjoy fellowship in the downstairs bistro. See you there!

Note: Wheelchair Trust board meeting afterwards.

What should we name our chief rat catcher at the project shed?
What should we name our chief rat catcher at the project shed?
This photo, by long time Associate Member Don Ferguson, shows our pet carpet python (Morelia Spilota) at our project shed. Not sure if it is the same that has been around for years, see Al Sirovs displaying 2 metre snake skin last year.
Carpet pythons are placid and not dangerous, except when they have just shed their skin. Then they are a bottle green colour and are hurting all over, and can bite you just like a cranky dog might. So stay clear of them at that time.
I thought that we should have a NAMING COMPETITION. What should we call it? (No politics, please! 😊)

To be sure, the dog is loyal. But why, on that account, should we take him as an example? He is loyal to man, not to other dogs. Karl Kraus, Austrian Writer 1874 – 1936
