To say it’s been another busy week is an understatement.
At last week’s Board meeting it was resolved to investigate establishing another trust to enable greater flexibility in the activities that can be undertaken by the Club and funded via tax deductible gift donations.
The two containers for Vanuatu have left the site.
Prior to departure, a band of 5 Club members attended the Project Shed on Thursday morning to stack 47 wheelchairs inside the second container for donation to Vanuatu.
There was also another Bunnings fund raiser last Saturday. The initial lack of the EFTPOS machine reinforced the fact that the use of cash is definitely on the way out.
Club assembly this Wednesday wherein Committees will report on their progress toward reaching the goals set out in the Strategic Plan.
This coming Wednesday, President Mitch Brown will conduct a Club Assembly. Its main purpose will be
* to establish how we are running in comparison to the targets set at the beginning of the Rotary Year and therefore what still needs to be done by end of June.
* to set a path forward to 2023-2024 Rotary year.
* to make recommendations and suggestions of what our club should do in future to retain its status as one of the most vigorous clubs in District 9640
* yes, you can lodge complaints. But don't forget to come up with a suggested solution to the problem at the same time.
Needless to say that it is important you attend this meeting, participate in the discussions and contribute. Surfers Sunrise is the envy of most clubs in the District. Sounds like bragging, doesn't it? Well, check for yourself! Let's keep it that way!
Sold out! was the message from Al Sirovs pertaining to his selfie. No doubt again a very successful fundraiser at Bunnings on Saturday. A big thank you to all the helpers Mitch Brown, Paul O'Neill, "Onion King" Gus Miller, Andy Bell, Franz Huber, Paul Seymour, Chris Thurtell, Darrell Brown, Al Sirovs, Neil Thurlow, and especially to Ross Augustine, who not only organised it all, picked up the gear from the shed and put it back again, but also took the first shift, standing in for one of our members who called in sick with Covid. A special mention to our Treasurer Charles Thomasson, who interrupted his family weekend to get the Square terminal and the till from said ill member...! A big PR breakfast has been organised, designed to highlight one of our club's "real big" projects: the X-Ray Unit for Pentecost Island, Vanuatu. This is a Multi-Club project, which also involves the Rotary Clubs of Broadbeach and Gold Coast.
The event is chaired by Mario Fairlie and Nicole Bricknell is charged with the overall organisation of the event. It will be held at breakfast on 5th April 2023 at the Cafe Catalina on the Broadwater Parklands, Southport. We expect various dignitaries to attend, including federal, state and local government representatives. Several have already accepted, including our District Governor, Karen Thomas. As Mario advised, we have confirmation that the Vanuatu Minister for Health, as well as "our man in Vanuatu", Dr Richard Leone, will attend.
Bookings are open now - click on this link: https://www.trybooking.com/CGETL or click on the QRCode. This will be one of the most important meetings of the year for all members as well as associate members and all volunteers who have tirelessly worked to bring this project to fruition.

<-- OK, some of the younger generation might not have a clue what this is all about... Ed.
If I waited every time until I had all my ducks in a row, I'd never get across the street. Sometimes you just have to gather up what you've got and make a run for it.
If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment. Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (180 AD)
Got up at 5 am, ran 10 Km, made myself a vegetable smoothie for breakfast, did two loads of laundry, mopped and vaccumed the floors of the house, and that's all I remember of my dream.
