Our Changeover Lunch was a great success, with 47 members and guests in attendance. It was a delightful afternoon, and I believe everyone thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship and the opportunity to celebrate another successful Rotary year.
Outgoing President Paul Seymour thanked all members for their contribution throughout the year. He also had the pleasure of presenting various awards and recognitions to members for their outstanding services and commitment to our club. Congratulations to all the recipients. We were privileged to have Lisa Hunt, District Foundation Chair and Past District Governor, who replied to the Toast to Rotary International. Lisa was accompanied by her husband, Gareth Hunt, who will become District Governor for the 2027-28 Rotary year. Lisa delivered an inspiring and informative address, reaffirming Rotary’s bright future and its continuing commitment to serving communities both locally and around the world.
During the afternoon, Paul, Lisa and I reflected on an exciting milestone for our club. Surfers Sunrise Rotary was chartered on 16 January 1987, and next January we will celebrate 40 years of service to our local community and to communities around the world. Planning is already underway for a special celebration on 16 January 2027, and I hope every one of you will join us for this memorable occasion.
Geoff Croad was recognised for his extraordinary contribution to our Wheelchair Project at the Parkwood Workshop. During his four years managing the facility, approximately 1,600 wheelchairs have been manufactured and delivered to disabled children and adults in developing countries. Geoff’s dedication and leadership have made an enormous difference to the lives of thousands of people. Thank you, Geoff, for your outstanding service and commitment.
I would also like to acknowledge Franz Huber for the outstanding annual report he prepared for the Changeover. It reflects Franz’s professionalism, attention to detail and commitment to excellence and provides a fitting record of another successful Rotary year. Thank you, Franz, for everything you contribute to our club.
Wednesday morning should be interesting, as I have been asked to present my vision for the year ahead. I look forward to sharing it with you and to working alongside each of you over the coming twelve months.

There are some events that have all the ingredients of class. Our Changeover Luncheon on Sunday was one of these: organised by Graeme Isaacson, the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel in Southport again demonstrated what the difference is between ordinary and class. Gathering for pre-luncheon drinks and canapées in the downstairs foyer (sponsored by Kane Chisholm and his company Kieser Bundall), we then proceeded to the top floor where we enjoyed a superbly prepared meal.

Here is a snapshot of the shipping information. The container with 285 'Rough Terrain' wheelchairs and other assorted donated equipment is well on the way to Durban, South Africa. Upon arrival, the Rotarians of Durban will organise the distribution throughout the hinterland regions of South Africa. It is expected to arrive on 16th August 2026.
