President's Message

Welcome to the Surfers Sunrise Post.

Unfortunately, I could not make the meeting last week, but by all reports, everything went off perfectly. Thanks to Andy Bell, we now have a President Elect for next year; I am sure that Andy will be a resounding success.

Another busy day at Bunnings last Saturday, until the storm hit - but like true Rotarians we kept on selling throughout the inconveniences, finishing after the storm had passed.

This Wednesday, breakfast will be a Q1. At last count, there were 38 booked [correct - Ed.], so there are still 2 spots available [Trybooking is closed - please contact Graeme Isaacson directly if you want to book the remaining seats]. After the breakfast, I am going to the Surf Club to give some Christmas presents to the Chef and the effervescent Barista in the coffee shop.

Next formal meeting will be on 10th January 2024, so I will take a break from the Sunrise Post until Monday 8th January.

See you Wednesday, but for those who can't be there: a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.

Thought of the week: You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.  Margaret Thatcher.

Doug Lipp,
President 2023-24.

A whole trailer load of kid's bikes
Last Thursday, Mario Fairlie and I took the trailer to Pimpama State Primary College to pick up an almost full trailer load of kid's bikes, which over a long time were forgotten, left behind, unclaimed... Many of them are in pristine condition, and thus suitable for refurbishment and subsequent donation to disadvantaged children, via organisations such as St John's Crisis Centre.

We took them back to the project shed, for our volunteers to check them out. Hopefully, we'll be able to take some of them to St John's before Christmas, to help brighten up some children's eyes!
Successful fundraiser at Bunnings BBQ
Last Saturday's fundraiser Bar-be-que at Bunnings Olsen Avenue was, as expected, a great success. Perfect weather, hot (yes, real hot) ensured that plenty of drinks were sold too! Sincere thanks go to Fundraising Director Ross Augustine and his helpers on the day: Charles Thomasson, Fred Hamblen, Mitch Brown, Evan Mita, Thomas Robinson, Gus Miller, Ralph Pownall, Rock O`Keefe and (pictured - last shift of the day) Al Sirovs, Doug Lipp, Geoff Croad, Darrell Brown, Ian Mayberry. (Photo by Al Sirovs)
Andy Bell is President Elect 2024-25
At the recent Annual General Meeting, Andy Bell was elected (by secret ballot) to the position of President Elect 2024-25.  Congratulations, Andy!

Andy brings some considerable experience in the job with him - in addition to numerous other senior roles and board positions, he was President in the 2017/18 year.

Inspirations - well, sort of... 201223
When you are stressed, you eat potato chips, ice cream, chocolate, cake and lollies. Why? Because 'stressed' spelt backwards is 'desserts'. Excercise helps too:
If a piece of Christmas cake falls on the floor, and you pick it up: That's a squat, isn't it??

“Christmas is built upon a beautiful and intentional paradox; that the birth of the homeless should be celebrated in every home.”
― G.K. Chesterton, Brave New Family: G.K. Chesterton on Men and Women, Children, Sex, Divorce, Marriage and the Family

The more you weigh, the harder it is to kidnap you. Stay safe, and eat Christmas cake!
