President's Message

Welcome to another week.

I am pleased to announce that the funds from the Queensland Gambling Community Benefit Fund have been received.  Thanks again, ross, for your sterling efforts! We can now purchase the forklift for the project shed.

The district is trying to increase the public image and for that purpose, the district is spending $1000 to purchase the branding of a sail on the Windeward Bound Tall Sailing Ship, the one that Matt went on.  We;ll have get Matt to tell us about his experience of the ship.

At last Wednesday’s social meeting, we had DR Elizabeth Celi attend. She will come along to our next meeting, so let's give her a big welcome.

Thought for the Week: Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving. Albert Einstein

Doug Lipp,
President 2023-24.

This coming Wednesday: Mystery Guest Speaker

Ralph Pownall, who originally was scheduled to speak this week, advised that due to illness, he regrettably won't be able to join us.  Over the next 36 hours, we'll organise someone to entertain you!

Geoff Croad answers 33 Questions
He is sometimes described as our "Minister for Everything" (but that is where any similarity to the rightful holder of this title, former Bielke-Peterson Government minister Russ Hinze, ends!) Geoff Croad joined our club in 1989, just two years after Charter. He is a Past President and held numerous directorships and the recipient of multiple awards, including Rotarian of the Year 2021/22. At the last AGM, Geoff was elected Chairman of the Wheelchair Trust, effective 01 July 2024.

It's all in the Download Section, ready for you to enjoy! Note: it is meant to be irreverent, so please don't take it all very serious!
Visit by Rotary team from Pennsylvania in 3 weeks
On Wednesday 13th March 2024, our club will host the Rotary Friendship Exchange Team from Pennsylvania. We will be joined by members of the Rotary Club of Mermaid Beach, who are joint hosts of our visitors. (The team actually arrives on the Gold Coast on Monday 11th March, and will leave on Friday morning). There is plenty of opportunity to meet and greet our visitors - see Paul Seymour for more details.

Here is an opportunity to meet some interesting people!  Join us at the Surfers Paradise Surf Life Saving Club, from 07:00 am. The "formal" part of the meeting starts at the usual time, 07:30 am and concludes at 08:30.  The team will then proceed to our wheelchair shed (approx 1 hour), then drive up to Mt Tamborine. Depending on the weather, we'll visit to the National Park and/or the Tamborine Mountain Regional Botanic Gardens. All members and friends are welcome to join.

There are various other events relating to the RFE team - please refer to the Events Section for more details. Some events are restricted; please see Paul Seymour to book.

Inspirations - well, sort of... 210224
Here's one from Gerald East:
Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes, that would be boring.
Spend 30 seconds inside my head, that'll freak you right out. [Sorry, Gerald, I won't even try... Ed.]

Human beings make life so interesting. Do you know, that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to invent boredom? Sir Terrence Pratchett, British Author and Humorist.

When you ask me what I'm doing today, and I say 'nothing', it does not mean I am free. It means I'm doing nothing.
